Due to COVID-19, we have moved forward to digital training. Coleacp trainers SARPONG Mark and ADDY Kenneth introduced the first digital training in Ghana, on integrated management for fruit fly control for fresh export technical managers. Trainees followed online courses and did exercises to put their knowledge into practice. Discussions on Zoom platform about each topic enabled a Q/A session and interaction among participants; Trainees reinforced their knowledge on recognizing #mango damage and completing phytosanitary certificates. As part of an initiatives to support Kenya’s renowned horticultural industry, KQ Cargo supported by Fresh Produce Exporters Association of Kenya (FPEAK); Kenya Flower Council (KFC); the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kenya; the European Union in Kenya and the Government of Kenya, uplifted 40 tons of flowers and vegetables to Amsterdam. In Brussels, a delegation from the East African Community (EAC), headed by Hon. Christophe BAZIVAMO, Deputy Secretary General, met COLEACP’s team headed by Delegate General Jeremy KNOPS to set up a roadmap for EAC-COLEACP collaboration. The EAC, a regional intergovernmental organisation based in Tanzania, has six partner states: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. In October 2019 COLEACP organised group training on “Crop Protection and Safe Use of Pesticides” in Arusha, for technical staff and extensionists of Tanzanian companies and cooperatives. In Arusha in September 2019, COLEACP held a 3-day group training course, “Guarantee the commercial quality of export avocado: quality criteria and good practices for harvest and post-harvest handling”.
